Our Stock Collections
For our stock collections Woodtrend is proud to introduce to our customers 3 chosen species, all machined to the same elegant shiplap narrow profile and machined in our factory for our stock collections. These species are chosen for their strength, durability and elegant weathering properties. The profile is tongue and grooved for secret fixing and at home in both modern and classical applications. We can deliver our stock collection in your chosen length in 4 days anywhere in the UK and Ireland.
Cumaru timber originates from Brazil and is part of our stock collection. This is a prime quality, chemical-free hardwood shiplap cladding that is kiln dried for extra stability. In stock, we offer a shiplap profile that can be installed with a secret fix. Stainless steel screws only. Cumaru is a very durable and dense cladding that requires no chemical finish. You can oil it or leave it to weather naturally from a russet red to deep brown to a silver- grey patina over time. Prices start at £48.68 per square-metre, excluding VAT.

Ipe is a very dense and dramatic hardwood cladding specie that is supplied air dried. Our stock profile is machined smoothed to a precision finish that can be either oiled or left to weather naturally. Allowing it to age naturally will result in a silver-grey patina over time. Like Cumaru, Ipe cladding is resistant to rot, fungi, and insects. Pricing ranges from £55.08 per square-metre, excluding VAT.

How to Calculate the Volume You Need
Calculating how much cladding is required by your project is a matter of a few basic calculations. First, measure the total area you need to cover in square meters. Then add 10% to that number to account for waste. Tongue and groove cladding applications are a little trickier to quantify as the there is a little of the face value lost when the groove fits over the tongue and you will need to buy more than the area you wish to cover.
Just to refresh your memory, you calculate the area of squares and rectangles by multiplying length by width. Calculate the area of a triangle by multiplying its base by its height, then halving the resulting number. The total area to be covered is the sum of your individual calculations.
Generally, you will not be deducting for windows or doors when calculating area. This gives you a little extra room for waste. If a door or window is exceptionally large (e.g., a bay window or a large garage door) it can be deducted from the total area.
Our standard hardwood cladding boards are 19 x 90mm with a t&g profile that gives a coverage area of 78mm. When calculating how much cladding you need to order please take this into account (our online calculator automatically will calculate how much timber is needed based on the coverage area). To give you an idea, 10m2 coverage area will require the purchase of approx. 11.56m2 of material.
Cladding Accessories You'll Need to Get Started
A Woodtrend specialist would be more than happy to help you determine just what you need to complete your project. Understand that you will need more than just cladding. There are also some accessories that will be required to get started. At the top of the list are the stainless-steel screws that will be used to attach the cladding to the side of the building. You will need battens, insect mesh which can easily be acquired at your local builders merchant. We will help you quantify what you need if required.
Our stainless-steel screws come in packages of 350 pieces intended for a 16-lobe driver bit. Your Woodtrend specialist can tell you how many packages you will need based on the amount of cladding you are ordering.
If you would like to oil your natural unfinished hardwood cladding we recommend using an exterior quality penetrative oil. We supply a great product manufactured and researched by a Danish company called Woca. This oil will not stop the cladding weathering to a silvery grey but it will slow the process. It cannot be applied on grey timber, but a little sanding after a few years and an application of the oil will revive the timber. Ask your Woodtrend specialist about it when you order.
